Urban Recess is a sport and fitness company for women founded in 2OO2. We are dedicated to changing the way you take care of your body and how you look at life. Urban Recess was born as an idea to incorporate fun into sports and fitness. As athletic and fitness trainers, we witnessed many of our clients burn out and lose interest in traditional training. We recognized the need for women to unwind from the stresses of everyday urban living and take themselves back to a time when moving, sweating and exercising were actually fun! We remembered what our favorite time of the day was when we were kids. A time when we got to go outside and release some energy, laugh, play and be with our friends. We created Urban Recess.
We are based out of Portland, Oregon. We offer an INTERVAL TRAINING BOOT CAMP and we also run a fitness classe for women based on RECESS games from elementary school. It is a clever way to disguise fitness in a fun hour of games and girlie bonding. Urban Recess also offers PERSONAL TRAINING and PILATES as well as TEAM BUILDING CLINICS. BOOT CAMP
This class is based on the Interval Training format. It intersperses a cardio burst (jump rope, skippees, etc.) with a strength training exercise (theraband biceps, knee push-ups, planks, etc.) and back and forth with the goal of maintaining a target heart rate (fat burning zone).
It's fun and the hour goes by in a flash. It's probably the most efficient workout there is. The results tend to work really well for women and leave them with tons of strength, stamina and toned muscles (yet still with a feminine look).

This class is a blend between abdominal/core exercises and flexibility training. We will be throwing in some balance training to boot! The class will be blended so that you have time to recover from one task to the next. In other words, it isnt a barrage of ab exercises for half an hour and stretching for the second half.
The idea is to work, recover, work, and recover...that way you will be able to prolong the work you are doing in what is typically a
burnout area into receiving more work. The flexibility aspect is a much needed addendum for those of you already in our Interval Training Bootcamp. Flexibility is often overlooked and what I always tell my clients/athletes is Remember when you stretch a muscle you
tone it at the same time. Muscles like to be safely elongated. What many people dont know is that flexibility leads to an overall better sense of well being....i.e. less aches and pains...not to mention better sleep because your bloodflow and circulation will be better!

Urban Recess produces events that are meant to bring women together to sweat, laugh, play, get a great workout and donate to a good womens cause! Our events are structured in a way that works as follows: We bring two teams of women (randomly chosen) together to play recess games (tag, relay races, duck duck goose, kickball, etc) for friendly competition. The goal is not necessarily to win but to push yourself, laugh, work for your team and have a good time. We have taken the recess games from when you were in grade school and made them fit into what would be considered a good workout for an adult woman. The women who have been through our class series say that it has gotten them into some serious shape!
We here at urban recess have also found that the experience derived from our events can often transcend the physical experience. Many women walk away with a newly acquired skill (throwing a football, etc) and a boost in self-esteem due to the supportive atmosphere we foster at each event. In addition, our events are an excellent opportunity to network and make new friends in a positive atmosphere and for a good cause.
These events are not only a great experience for women of all fitness levels and ages, but they are for a great cause! Each event we chose a worthy womens related organization to donate a portion of the proceeds to. For example, some of the organizations we donate to are Breast Cancer Foundation, Womens Rights Foundation, YWCA, etc. We are open to suggestions for worthy organization that you know about that are in need of some attention or funding.

PERSONAL TRAINING, PILATES AND SOCCER TRAINING
Karin Schmidt is a Certified Personal Trainer/Pilates Intructor. She has been training for over 15 years and just arrived to Portland from San Francisco. In San Francisco, she was the Fitness Director of one of the biggests clubs in town. After acquiring that experience, she started Urban Recess and her independent personal training business. Karin has seen it all and tried it all as far as fitness methods are concerned. She has found a method that is safe, efficient and works best for women's bodies in terms of maintaining a desirable weight and toning.
Karin is also a former soccer player (17 years) and loves to train young girls-teenagers how to become the best player they can be!
Karin loves what she does and genuinely wants to help people so she keeps her prices low. She does that so that she can work with all kinds of people and also to enable them to workout more often.
