“Boot camp” can sound intimidating. We mean the format. We do not wear camouflage and we do not yell. Simply, this class is based on the Interval Training format, which intersperses cardio bursts (jump rope, obstacle course, etc.) with strength training exercise (Theraband biceps, knee push-ups, planks, etc.). We do this with the goal of maintaining a target heart rate (fat burning zone). The format changes all the time in order to challenge you and maintain your interest. The instructor might call out an obstacle course, a mat related exercise, something in a station, or a freestyle move. In other words, it keeps you on your toes. You won't be bored. It's fun and the hour will go by in a flash.
This is a very safe and efficient workout. Our clients see results: strength, stamina, and toned muscles with a feminine look.
The women who take this class tend to stay with it for years. We are serious about the workout, but we also take this opportunity to enjoy ourselves! The class has a team-like camaraderie. Everyone in the group gets with a nickname after awhile... So just ask Leroy, Red, Penquin, Twinkles, Smiley, Spoiler, or Steggie. They will tell you that this is a very welcoming environment and that it's possible to have fun while you are working out with your girls!

This class blends abdominal/core exercises and flexibility training. We also look at balance. This blended format allows you to recover as you move from one exercise to the next. The idea is to work, recover, work, and recover… This way you will be able to prolong the work without burnout.
The flexibility aspect is very complementary for those of you already in our Interval Training Bootcamp (or other cardio and strength training). Flexibility is often overlooked. Remember that when you stretch a muscle, you tone it at the same time. Flexibility can lead to an overall better sense of well being (and less aches and pains) and better sleep due to increased blood-flow and circulation!

Let Urban Recess produce your team event or fundraiser. We bring women together to sweat, laugh, play, get a great workout and donate to a good cause! Our events are structured to bring two teams (randomly chosen) together to play recess games (tag, relay races, Duck Duck Goose, kickball, etc.) for friendly competition. The goal is not necessarily to win, but to push yourself, to laugh, to work with your team and to have a good time. We have taken the recess games you loved as a kid and made them into a good workout for adult women. The women who have been through our class series say that it has gotten them into some serious shape!
At Urban Recess, we have also found that the experience derived from our events can transcend the physical experience. Many women walk away with a newly acquired skill (throwing a football, etc) and a boost in self-esteem due to the supportive atmosphere we foster at each event. Our events are an excellent opportunity to network and make new friends in a positive atmosphere and for a good cause.
At each event, Urban Recess will donate a portion of the proceeds to a worthy women’s organization. Some of the organizations we have donated to in the past are the National Breast Cancer Foundation, Women’s Rights Foundation (WRF), YWCA, etc. We are open to suggestions for worthy organizations that are in need of some attention and funding.
